Are there any famous private investigators?
Many well-known private investigators have appeared in literature, film, and other forms of popular culture. A few examples are the fictional detectives created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the late 19th century: Sherlock Holmes; Sam Spade; Philip Marlowe; and Kinsey Millhone, a fictional female private investigator created by Sue Grafton. Sam Spade is a hard-boiled detective from Dashiell Hammett's "The Maltese Falcon." Real-life private investigators like Anthony Pellicano, a contentious private eye who has served high-profile clients in the entertainment world, and Allan Pinkerton, who created the Pinkerton National Detective Agency in the 19th century, have also become well-known.
